
2008 marked the 40th anniversary of the death of civil rights’ leader Martin Luther King, Jr. In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 21, thousands of community members in Portland, Oregon, convened throughout the weekend to pay tribute and enjoy musical and other performances. At the Second Annual Drum Major Ecumenical Service at Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church awards were presented to five local leaders who have made contributions in the spirit of King, Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks. Among the recipients were Sho & Loen Dozono, who were honored for “Living the Dream in the spirit of ‘Drum Major’ Martin Luther King, Jr.
